I got a homestay through this school for the week of Day of the Dead, didn’t take classes as they’re expensive compared to other schools (homestay is too but didn’t have a lot of choices for Day of the Dead). I asked if I could participate in the school’s organized activites and was told yes, also asked about costs and was told some are free and some aren’t, wasn’t given the cost list.Homestay was extremely close to the school, shower water pressure was extremely lacking, took at least 5 mins each time to get hot water. There was one other student at my homestay and her room and bed were significantly bigger even though she paid the same as me. Hosts (two sisters) were friendly, didn’t talk to them a ton but were good when we did.I went to the Day of the Dead lecture activity, and then I went to skull decorating. Wasn’t told about the cost upfront and then found out it was $35 (USD). Really?! In the end, they charged me only for the materials, 250 MXN (no idea if that’s the real cost, that’s what I paid, ~$14 USD). I asked about the costs for the other events, they told me the tamale tasting is free and the costs for others (1400 MXN / ~$75 USD for cooking class, 800 MXN / $43 USD for cemetery visit, really expensive). I showed up for the tamale tasting and then was told right then that it’s only for students. Why was I told that it’s free then? I also didn’t eat lunch, and the tamale tasting was at 2PM when not much is open to eat. Really inconsiderate. They also had issues taking my credit card, their machine just wasn’t working, not sure. I was sent a link that also didn’t work, and then another link that didn’t work. I was asked to go back to the school to pay. Inconvenient.Look elsewhere, their pricing for homestay and school is expensive, and they’re clearly trying to make a big profit off of their activities. Also really inconsiderate telling me I could attend an activity and then turning me away when I showed up. That’s not how you run a business and treat your clients.[Edit] After writing my review, they messaged me on WhatsApp telling me that my review is too low. 🤷♀️
One of the Mexican professors I studied with at a study abroad program in Chiapas recommended that I visited Oaxaca, he told me it was his favorite place in all of Mexico. When I told him I wanted to work on my Spanish language skills in an immersive environment, he recommended Becari. I am so glad he did! I just finished a wonderful three week experience, focusing on grammar and conversation skills for four hours a day, while staying at a relaxing home stay and getting to walk all around a beautiful city that values art and history. And as a bonus, I got to experience all of the Day of the Dead events. I highly recommend this school, everyone was very professional and the teachers were patient, encouraging, and top-notch. Thank you everyone!
Our family of four took Spanish classes this summer. The school made it easy to arrange lessons at four different levels of experience, all at the same time of day. We chose a schedule of three hours each weekday afternoon—two hours of instruction followed by one hour of conversation practice. Our 11th grader said that grammar concepts she had learned in high school finally made sense, and she especially enjoyed connecting with near-peers who were university students. One of the kids’ favorite teachers was Jasiel. We’re happy to recommend this school.
I highly recommend Becari Language SchoolI studied at Becari Conzatti Language School at the Valentin Gomez Farias campus for two weeks. I had a great experience there. The director, Dr. Marta Canseco, was very accommodating. I had planned to arrive in June but wasn’t able to do that. Instead of losing the money I had paid, she allowed me to postpone my trip until September. In addition, the first day of class, it was clear that I wasn’t in the correct level. The next day I had a new teacher and because I was the only student at my level, I received private lessons. Both my teachers were excellent. They knew their grammar well and were able to make their classes interesting and fun. I reviewed the some of the same topics I’ve studied before (direct and indirect objects, two past tenses, and por and para). In each case, I learned a new trick to help me understand which to use.
I took lessons for 9 weeks, 3 hours a day, for a total of 132 hours, split half and half between grammar and conversation. I started around level B1 and finished above level B2. I can wholeheartedly recommend Becari and their instructors.Pros -They take credit card! The only one in Oaxaca and they discount their prices the longer you take classes. -They have flexible schedules. I studied between 4-7pm (16-19:00) and they are willing to work with you on times. -The instructors are great and are very patient. I worked with Yara and Adriana who are both very passionate about teaching and bring different styles.Cons -The only con is one I've found in many language schools: while there is definitely a curriculum, there is always a need to keep pushing forward and learning new things and reviewing older material generally doesn't happen often. It was my fault for not speaking up about slowing down and reviewing material though.
OVERVIEW: I absolutely adore this school, the teachers, etc. Cannot say enough good things! Read on for full details...Context: I did a 4 week say in Oaxaca this year and was determined to find a language school where I could accelerate my Spanish given that I had previously studied for 3 months online in a very hap-hazard and ruthless way to skip from zero Spanish to intermediate. I had asked around for language schools/tutors and a friend of a friend could not stop raving about Becari!Considering that their lowest commitment is 3 hours a day 5x a week, I knew that this would be the perfect choice for me!Dr. Martha is such a pleasure to work with and my 2 teachers Juli and Minerva were absolutely excellent. I think I lucked out so this isn't normal, but I ended up having 1-on-1 tutoring. Half my lessons were focusing on grammar (which I desperately need) and the other half is conversation. And, naturally, along the way, I'm picking up lots of vocabulary as well.Overall, it's been such a pleasure! I'm hoping to continue classes online with them even after I leave Oaxaca! 🥰
This is a great school for improving Spanish language skills. Before retiring, I was a teacher for 44 years, and I feel that the teachers at Becari Conzatti have excellent teaching skills. They know how to make their teaching interesting and they know how to encourage learners to participate (practice actually speaking in rich conversations) by asking interesting questions and encouraging students. The class periods are just the right length. I never got discouraged or bored and I really feel that my speaking ability improved during the two weeks I spent there.
